Big News: NSW Battery Rebate Launching 1 July 2025

Hi everyone,

I wanted to personally share some exciting news that could make a real difference to your household energy bills.

Starting 1 July 2025, the NSW Government is introducing a Battery Rebate Scheme that will help eligible homeowners save thousands on the upfront cost of installing a home battery. This is something we’ve been waiting for – and it’s a big step forward in helping more families take control of their energy use.

What Is the Battery Rebate?

If you’ve already got solar installed or are thinking about it, this rebate could make a home battery much more affordable. The government will offer a rebate of up to $1,600 for eligible homes that install a compliant battery system.

Who’s Eligible?

To access the rebate, you must:

  • Be a homeowner in NSW
  • Have (or be installing) a solar PV system
  • Use a CEC-accredited installer – that’s us at Finese Electrical & Air Conditioning
  • Join an approved Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program

What’s a VPP – and Why Does It Matter?

A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) connects your battery to a broader energy network. When your battery has excess stored power, it can share some of that back to the grid at peak times — and you’ll be financially rewarded for it.

Important to know: You must join a VPP to receive the rebate. If you choose not to, you can still install a battery system — you just won’t get the rebate benefit, though you’ll still reduce your power bills in the long run.

What Could This Mean for Your Bills?

Here’s a simple example:

If you have a 6kW solar system and add a 10kWh battery, you could:

  • Use stored solar power at night
  • Save between $600–$1,200 per year on your electricity bills
  • Potentially earn more by participating in a VPP
  • Rely less on the grid — especially during price spikes
